About this guide

London House Builders is a free, independent guide to hiring and working with builders in London. It covers both sides: homeowners protecting themselves from bad builders, and builders protecting themselves from bad clients.

What this site is, and is not

• It is an information site. It is not a building company, and it does not do building work.
• It does not recommend, rank or sell any builder or service. There are no adverts, no sponsored listings, no affiliate links and no quote forms.
• It is information, not legal advice. For advice on your situation, see Citizens Advice or a solicitor.

How the guides are written

Each fact about law or official guidance is linked to its source, mostly GOV.UK, legislation.gov.uk, Citizens Advice, HSE and the courts. Practical tips that are not legal rules are written as tips. We do not invent statistics, reviews or testimonials. The guides cover England, and London in particular. Some rules differ in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

All guides were last checked on 24 October 2026. See the full list of sources.
